Arnold Swai
At the age of 5 years, accompanied by his mother and uncles in the wilderness who by then they were already working in the safari industry. To Arnold a new world full of fascination was born. The need to understand how animals and things work in the wilderness was sparkled, and the story of an endless curiosity and the joy of wilderness pursuit begin.
Growing up at early years at the feet of the two great volcanic mountains in Africa, Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro respectively was just enough to ignite the urge of scaling them up and down as familiar grounds and common eyesight for him. Given enough chances to accompany his uncles in the wilderness during school breaks and left alone to explore the Indian Ocean at the final stages of his high school was enough to give him another insight of the world he didn’t give attention before. Another world he deeply fell in love with. His friends ended up calling him “Samaki” a Swahili word for “Fish” for the love of ocean.
Knowing already his destiny through all his past and experiences, was enough to land him into pursuing his Bachelor degree in Wildlife Management, right at the base the might Mount Kilimanjaro. This opened up a world full of connections and opportunities with him joining African Wildlife Foundationih as an assistant researcher for their Kilimanjaro heartland elephants research project and later for marine life in the Kenyan coast. Even after all this time of playing around deep into research and conservation works the guiding side was still calling.
Through good friends in 2008 he finally cut his guiding teeth at the heart of the great Serengeti ecosystem into a very pristine private reserve where he would enjoy being a field guide and part of the conservation team. Since then he has never stopped exploring the wilderness not only in Tanzania but to the rest of Africa as well. Over the years Arnold’s adventures have taken him to Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Namibia, Seychelles and Mauritius all in joy and love of land and ocean pursuit. Beyond his guiding activities, Arnold continue to explore the world and share his passion for travel and photography with fellow
adventurers.
